Reason for Hydrotherapy

Spondylosis

Dylan has been coming to Bluewaters Canine Hydrotherapy Centre since May 2017. Dylan suddenly became very lame on what appeared to be his left front leg (though it did swap legs) and seemed very unwilling to get up. The vet prescribed NSAIDS which unfortunately Dylan did not respond well to. He did not want to get up, was incredibly lame all round, was not eating and was generally depressed. As a result Dylan was sent for an X-ray on which confirmed that he had Spondylosis in his lumbar vertebrae, particularly between L3 and L4 and between L5 and L6. Dylan was prescribed codeine and high doses of nutraquin. He began to show some improvement, but could still not get up well, sit or walk for long. His appetite was still poor. Dylan began hydrotherapy, showing a massive improvement after about 3-4 weeks of sessions in the hydrotherapy pool. He seemed to be in a lot less pain, began eating better and was happy to walk further. His painkillers began to be reduced as the sessions went on and now Dylan is painkiller free and on a maintenance dose of nutraquin. In the last two weeks he has began to sit and get up with a lot less effort. He has not shown any lameness since beginning hydrotherapy and although it is not his favourite activity, he has benefited from it immensely.
