Case Study
Name: George
Breed: Labrador
Age: 13 years old
Reason for Hydrotherapy
Chronic Osteoarthritis
George started to attend Bluewaters Canine Hydrotherapy Centre as he was suffering from chronic osteoarthritis that affected his hips and elbows.
We decided the hydrotherapy pool would be best for George’s rehabilitation as it is a completely non-weight bearing environment, and prevents any undue pressure being put on his joints. George was a bit nervous to start with but soon settled into his sessions and now really enjoys his swims at Bluewaters.
Initially George didn’t extend his hind legs very much and was quite stiff through his front legs. As George has progressed he has started to stretch his hind legs out much more with much easier movement through his front legs. George now swims for 10 minutes with rests and loves swimming round following his tennis ball.
George has progressed really well and his owner has been delighted with his progress. George is now enjoying his walks again and is able to walk much further now without needing to rest. George has lost 3kg in weight since the start of his sessions and 19cm off his waist which is a fantastic result! He has also gained muscle mass on all four limbs (4-8 cm on each limb).
We really enjoy seeing George at the centre, he is such a sweet natured boy and it has been a real pleasure to see him progress so well.
Well done George!
George is no longer on any pain relief medication. He has lost lots of weight and is so much fitter and stronger. I am so pleased that the hydrotherapy sessions are helping so much. He thoroughly enjoys coming to the centre.
