Name: Spooky Boo
Breed: Lurcher
Age: 6 Years
Reason for Hydrotherapy
Spinal Injury
On New Years Eve Spooky slipped, twisted and fell. In a matter of seconds Spooky lost the use of her back legs. An MRI showed a fragment of disc matter had exploded at high velocity into her spinal column, causing bruising, swelling and compression. This injury cannot be decompressed with surgery. Unfortunately the MRI also showed Myelomalacia in a small portion of her spinal cord, where part of the cord had ‘died’ due to severe trauma. Prognosis was not good, it looked unlikely that she would ever walk unaided, if at all. After the first few weeks Spooky was able to start Hydrotherapy here at Bluewaters Canine Hydrotherapy Centre. Her first swim showed great promise, her legs starting to move in the water. As the weeks went on Spooky’s legs moved more and more. The day she did her first wobbly walk into the centre was an incredible feeling. Spooky is now able to run and jump happily though she uses a cart to assist her on long walks to help support her. We all love Spooky – she is an amazingly sweet, gentle natured dog who is doing brilliantly well under the care of her very supportive owners.
